Government Accountability

America’s founders could not have envisioned the exponential growth of our bureaucracy. Their framework required a lean, constrained, and accountable federal government. Congress must rein in the federal government and make them accountable to the American people. As the lead Texan of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, I will work to reduce wasteful and unnecessary spending and hold our agencies and officials accountable. Some of my efforts include:

  • H.R. 8736 – GUARD VA Benefits Act | This bill imposes criminal penalties and/or fines on individuals for soliciting, contracting for, charging, or receiving any unauthorized fee or compensation with respect to the preparation, presentation, or prosecution of any claim for Department of Veterans Affairs benefits.
  • H.R. 6659 – Health Care for Burn Pit Veterans Act | This bill updates policies and procedures related to Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) health care and benefits for veterans who have been exposed to toxic substances.
  • H.R. 139 – Major Richard Star Act | The bill addresses the problems of rampant and abused pandemic-era telework policies under the Biden Administration by returning the federal government to the 2019 pre-pandemic telework levels within 30 day.
