Washington D.C.– Today, the Congress passed the CHIPS Plus Act. The legislation was expanded after being pork rolled by Democrats. Congressman Sessions released the following statement following the bill's passage.

"I oppose the grossly expanded CHIPS Plus act. This was initially introduced as a bi-partisan bill with roughly 34 pages of text and 50 billion dollars in funding. Overnight, it has now grown to 1,054 pages and 250 billion dollars in funding.

The money, intended for the semiconductor industry, does not include necessary definitions to achieve its desired effect. The person put in charge of the definitions and discretion of the money this bill provides is the US Secretary of Commerce, and she has been given zero restrictions on how this funding is to be dispersed. I cannot support an allocation of money that can be used at the discretion of  another branch of the federal government, with no legislative oversight. There is a growing fear these funds will be used by companies to subsidize their other operations overseas in China. Congress has a duty make sure these funds are used correctly, with proper oversight, and inside the intent of the law. 

As well, this bill is still overburdened by dragging amendments. We need to free the CHIPS act from the 800 pages of the left’s agenda. This bill and its funding have been taken hostage by the bureaucratic process and Senate democrats. We need to return this bill to the people, to the semiconductor industry and back to its original form."
