The project will replace obsolete computing equipment with a modern, scalable HPC cluster utilizing Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) acceleration to support artificial intelligence, large-scale data analysis, and advanced modeling used in federally funded research.
Funding will be used to purchase GPU computing nodes, high-capacity data storage, and high-speed networking equipment to support a centralized computing cluster housed within Baylor’s existing data center. The project will not require construction and will leverage existing facilities and infrastructure.
Modern HPC capability is increasingly necessary for universities to compete for federal research funding and support advanced work in areas such as materials science, biomedical modeling, space and astrophysics research, and engineering innovation. This investment will strengthen Central Texas’ research capacity, support workforce development in advanced computing and AI, and help ensure that federal research funding and technology innovation remain in Texas rather than shifting to external cloud providers or institutions in other states.

The program will establish a hub-and-spoke training model centered in Hearne with expansion into Calvert and Waco, utilizing fixed and mobile manufacturing labs equipped with industrial-grade robotics and CNC equipment.
The AIM Center will provide middle and high school students with hands-on training, industry-recognized certifications, and exposure to NASA-aligned curriculum in robotics, programming, artificial intelligence, and advanced manufacturing. The program will help prepare students for high-wage technical careers and increase readiness for engineering and STEM degree programs.
This investment will strengthen the workforce pipeline supporting Texas’ aerospace and advanced manufacturing sectors while addressing a significant gap in specialized STEM training in rural school districts. By expanding access to advanced technical education, the project will support economic development, strengthen U.S. competitiveness in advanced manufacturing, and create a scalable model for rural workforce development nationwide.
