Washington, D.C. - Today, Congressman Pete Sessions stood with fellow House Republicans in a decisive vote to impeach Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. The impeachment articles presented on the House floor detail Secretary Mayorkas' systematic refusal to enforce federal immigration laws, which has contributed to the degradation of our nation's border security. 

The investigation, spanning nearly a year, has revealed startling statistics and a pattern of behavior by Secretary Mayorkas that undermines the security and integrity of the United States borders. It was found that under his leadership, there has been a significant failure to detain illegal immigrants as required by law, with a shockingly low percentage of migrants being detained during their immigration proceedings. 

"After a rigorous investigation by the Homeland Security Committee, it is clear that Secretary Mayorkas has failed to perform the duties required by his office," said Congressman Sessions. "His stark dereliction of duty shows blatant disregard for enforcing border laws already on the books. His performance is a significant breach of public trust that cannot be overlooked. Secretary Mayorkas' actions have directly led to an unprecedented crisis at the Texas border. Our communities have been thrust into the front lines of a battle against illegal immigration, human trafficking, and the fentanyl crisis. This is unacceptable, un-American, and has forced the State of Texas to challenge the Biden administration."
