This week, Congress recessed for the Memorial Day District Work period, providing Members of Congress the opportunity to recognize Memorial Day in their districts and meet with constituents.
This week in Washington, Congress finally delivered on its responsibility to support our troops and fund the War on Terror by passing an emergency military funding bill without a timeline for surrender. After four months of withholding funding for our military, House Democrats have finally chosen to place the needs of our military above political interests.
This week in Washington, my colleagues and I passed military funding legislation for that will fund ongoing defense operations and provide a pay raise for members of the Armed Forces. The House passed H.R. 1585, The National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year (FY) 2008, on Wednesday by a vote of 397-27.
This week, House Democrats continued their quest to raise your taxes. I wish that I could report to you that the fiscal year 2008 Budget had improved since its original House passage. Unfortunately, the Budget’s massive and irresponsible tax increase is still on track to be the largest in American history, weighing in at a shocking $392.5 billion over the next 5 years.
This week, Congress passed legislation to promote technological innovation, bolster the strength of our manufacturing industry, and contribute to the global competitiveness of American businesses.
This week, the House passed the final version of an Iraq withdrawal bill – which is now destined for the President’s veto pen because it undermines our military and diminishes our capacity to fight the Global War on Terror.
This week, Congress returned to session after a two-week District Work Period. Among the first orders of business included H.R. 1257, the Shareholder Vote on Executive Compensation Act. H.R. 1257 would force every publicly-held company to bear the costs of administering a non-binding shareholder proxy vote on the pay packages of its highest-compensated officials.
This week, Congress continued its Spring District Work Period. As I began another week of constituent and policy meetings, on Monday I also had the privilege of receiving an Honorary Doctorate in Humanities from Dallas Baptist University (DBU).
U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-Dallas) today officially presented a $1.3 million grant check to the Dallas Fire Department. This federal grant was administered by the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) Office of Grants and Training for the acquisition of local Urban Search and Rescue Task Force (USAR) equipment.
This week in Washington, House Democrats delivered on their promise to pass the fiscal year 2008 budget resolution – a proposal I highlighted last week that raises taxes, funds wasteful spending, and does nothing to address the impending crisis with entitlement spending.
