The Hill Report: Week of October 24 - 28, 2016
This week I proudly joined the people of Dallas in honoring our police chief, David Brown. It is with mixed emotion that Dallas says goodbye to Chief Brown after 33 years of service with the Dallas Police Department. For more than three decades, Chief Brown has devoted himself to the protection of our citizens and the betterment of our city. During one of the darkest periods in Dallas' history, Chief Brown stood as an example to the rest of the country and the world and showed the very best of our city. While his incredible leadership will be sorely missed, there is no one who has earned their retirement more so than Chief David Brown, and I wish him and his family all my best as they begin this next chapter in their lives.

Meeting with North Texas Physicians and Healthcare Specialists
Today I had the opportunity to meet with a number of physicians and healthcare specialists from North Texas and around the nation to discuss the impacts of MACRA on doctors and patients. During our productive meeting, I believe we developed some great ideas to help protect the medical community, especially small/solo practices that might be negatively impacted. I look forward to developing these ideas with the Council and keeping the public informed on our progress.

Dallas Home Builders
I was honored to receive the 2016 Defender of Housing award Tuesday evening. North Texas is home to one the most vibrant housing markets in the country and it is extremely important to me to move big Government out of the way of the home building industry. Too often agencies like the EPA create rules and regulations that are extremely crippling to home builders which in turn raise the cost of homes for the average American.
UNT Speaker Series
On Thursday I was delighted to join my dear friend and Chairman of the University of North Texas Board of Regents Brint Ryan at the UNT Kuehne Speaker Series to hear former Mayor of New York City, Rudy Giuliani speak. I appreciated Mayor Giuliani's grasp of the great national security issues facing our country, as well as his candor in speaking to the men and women in attendance, and I applaud the University of North Texas for its commitment to bringing in distinguished lecturers such as Mayor Giuliani to share their experiences and expertise with North Texans.
Southwest Jewish Congress
Wednesday evening I was honored to join the Southwest Jewish Congress to celebrate the recipients of the Audrey Kaplan Inspiring Women of the Southwest Award, the Future Inspiring Women Award, the Stan Golden Men of Action, the Future Men of Action Award, and the Lifetime Achievement Award. These recipients have embodied the mission of the Southwest Jewish Congress through their strong support of Israel and ability to build bridges in North Texas. I couldn’t be more proud of their actions and efforts to better the communities in which they live.
