The Hill Report: Week of June 19 - 23, 2017
We have heard a lot of talk about Washington’s inability to work together. However, this week, the House passed a bipartisan jobs bill with overwhelming support from both sides of the aisle. This bill underscores our ability to come together to deliver results for theAmerican people by passing legislation that will directly impact American families, our economy, and our labor force.
According to the Bureau of Labor statistics, 6 million job openings are waiting to be filled, yet at the same time the number of Americans participating in the workforce is at a four-decade low. This bill bridges that gap by encouraging employer-led partnerships to hire recipients from the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program. I’m proud to join my colleagues from both sides of the aisle in supporting this innovative solution to get Americans back to work. Meeting with Texans
Department of Commerce Investment Summit
On Monday I was honored to participate in the Department of Commerce Investment Summit and introduce Secretary Rick Perry. This event brings together titans in the business industry and thought leaders to discuss how to better facilitate investment in the United States and grow our economy. We have a great opportunity to rebuild our nation’s economy through pro-growth policies that will allow the free enterprise system to thrive. I am delighted that I had the opportunity to participate in this event and I look forward to working with these individuals to grow our economy and create jobs.

Charter Communications
Earlier this week I was delighted to sit down with North Texas representatives from Charter Communications to discuss the important new developments in the telecommunications industry. This industry has created 2,934 jobs in 32nd Congressional District of Texas alone and has had a $438 million economic impact on our North Texas region. Charter is an example of the success ofthe free enterprise system and I look forward to continuing to work with them to create jobs for hard working North Texans and grow our local and national economy.
US Army Corps of Engineers
This Wednesday I met with Col. Calvin C. Hudson II and the Army Corps of Engineers to discuss important infrastructure projects in North Texas. For the past two years we have been working hand-in-hand to make necessary repairs to the Lake Lewisville Dam to prevent a tidal wave from wiping out the entire Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex. Their commitment to the safety and security of North Texans is unparalleled. As our region grows, it is critical that we stay up to date with our infrastructure and ensure all of our dams, levies, and bridges can sustain our booming population.

Nature Conservancy Texas
On Wednesday I enjoyed meeting with Texans from The Nature Conservancy to discuss various initiatives. Their innovative projects include oyster beds that clean ocean water while simultaneously generating recreational revenue that help such projects pay for themselves. We also discussed tax reform, particularly the importance of charitable giving incentives, and the benefits of green infrastructure. As a father of two sons, I understand the need to conserve our environment forthe generations to come and I appreciate their commitment to preserving the natural beauty in our great state of Texas.
Live Beyond
This week I met with representatives from Live Beyond, a faith-based, non-profit mission in Haiti. They host mission trips for churches, organizations and individuals. The organization's Founder & CEO, Dr. David Vanderpool, M.D., is a Dallas trauma surgeon who specializes in tropical medicine for the developing world. It was amazing to hear about their mission to help those who need it most specifically by bringing health care, clean water and education to the nation of Haiti.
