I am thrilled to see the pro-growth and commonsense solutions we have worked hard to implement are unleashing the free market and kicking our North Texas, and U.S., economy into high gear. With today’s announcement that our economy grew by an astounding 4.1 percent last quarter and jobless claims are projected to hit a nearly 50 year low, it’s no secret, our economy is booming. I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues and the administration to implement policies that increase consumer confidence and work for our job creators, small businesses, and families around the country.

This week, I voted to support the conference report to accompany H.R. 5515, the John S. McCain National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to provide our men and women in uniform with the support, equipment, and protection they need to effectively defend our nation from rapidly evolving threats. Our selfless servicemembers and our national defense leaders rely on the stability and continuity provided by comprehensive packages like the annual, bipartisan NDAA to advance military readiness and ensure our armed forces continue to be the best of the best.

I proudly supported three pieces of legislation to provide much-needed relief to American families who continue to suffer from the devastating impacts of Obamacare. From 2013 to 2017, we have seen the cost of coverage in the individual market increase by 105% on average. Additionally, many Americans have seen their premiums and deductibles double and we have seen families who are enrolled in Affordable Care Act (ACA) plans get turned away from seeing the specialists and physicians they need. I was glad to support H.R. 184, the Protect Medical Innovation Act of 2017; H.R. 6311 the Increasing Access to Lower Premium Plans and Expanding Health Savings Accounts Act of 2018; and H.R. 6199, the Restoring Access to Medication and Modernizing Health Savings Accounts Act of 2018 to begin to fix our broken healthcare system.

I was proud to advocate for increased NIH funding specifically for Down syndrome research

That is why I have teamed up with House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce (R-CA), House Homeland Security Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) and House Small Business Chairman Steve Chabot (R-OH) to introduce H.R. 1456, the Shark Fin Sales Elimination Act, a bipartisan bill that now has over 230 cosponsors in the House of Representatives.
