The Hill Report: Week of January 18 - 22, 2016
During this district work week, I enjoyed meeting with North Texans and discussing current legislation in Washington, policies that impact small businesses, and other critical issues facing our communities and nation as a whole. In addition to my meetings this week, I will be traveling down to Texas-Mexico border this afternoon with the Army National Guard and United States Customs and Border Patrol on an integrated mission to learn how we can secure our borders and stop criminal illegal aliens from illegally infiltrating our country. I will be posting pictures throughout the mission so make sure to visit my Facebook, twitter, and Instagram pages.
Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
On Monday Americans across the nation paused to remember the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I was honored to participate in the Garland Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade on Saturday and attend the youth choir concert. It was a wonderful event that reminded us all of the great sacrifice and contribution that Dr. King made to our great nation and his unwavering commitment to spreading his message of love and equality to all Americans.

Global North Texas
This week I had the opportunity to meet with Elaine Head and Shirley Cochrane from Global North Texas and learn more about their involvement with the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP). Since 1940, the IVLP has engaged more than 200,000 international visitors, including over 335 current or former Chiefs of State or Heads of Government, to help strengthen U.S. relations with countries around the world. As North Texans, we have a rich wealth of culture and experiences to share with the world, and having a top-notch partner like Global North Texas ensures that these visitors to our country leave with an understanding of what makes North Texas so special.

Greater East Dallas Chamber of Commerce
On Tuesday I was delighted to present the 2015 Greater East Dallas Chamber Chairman’s Award to Denise Aver-Phillips of the C.C. Young Retirement Community and Assisted Living Center. The Chairman’s award is an annual award given to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the East Dallas community over the course of the year. Denise’s passion for and dedication to East Dallas and the GEDCC have truly made a difference in the community, and I was thrilled to help recognize her efforts.
