Sessions Statement 10.2 Percent Unemployment

Washington, DC—U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (TX-32) today released the following statement regarding the Department of Labor’s announcement that October unemployment escalated from 9.8 percent to 10.2 percent – the highest since April 1983.

“Washington has failed the American people. Now over 190,000 more American families are facing the painful reality of joblessness while the Democrat Majority advances their job-killing agenda that will eliminate 10 million more jobs under health care ‘reform,’ cap-and-tax, and card check unionization.

“Every unemployed American understands firsthand that President Obama’s economic ‘stimulus’ has been a colossal failure. Over 3 million Americans have lost their jobs since the trillion-dollar ‘stimulus’ became law. Yet in stunning disconnect from reality, the Obama Administration continues to peddle the stimulus using far-fetched jobs numbers and citing its success beyond their ‘wildest dreams.’

“It’s past time for the President and Congress to place job creation over personal political agendas. I stand ready to work on proven job creation policies that will empower employers to keep more of what they earn to grow, invest, and hire more workers. The American people deserve far better than a jobless recovery.”
