This week, the House continued to work to fund our nation’s priorities while urging President Obama and Senate Democrats to join our efforts to reopen the government, protect Americans from ObamaCare, and find a fiscally responsible path forward in addressing the debt limit.
We approved legislation to fund critical government operations such as food and drug safety, Head Start, federal aviation, and border security. Additionally, we approved the Honoring the Families of Fallen Soldiers Act, which is legislation to ensure that death benefits to families of fallen troops will continue to be disbursed during the government shutdown. I’m very pleased to report that the Senate moved forward on this important bill and that the President signed it into law on Thursday. Also on Thursday, I joined House Republican leaders in meeting with President Obama at the White House. There’s a long history in this country of presidents and congressional leaders negotiating with each other to benefit our great nation. After weeks of asking the president to come to the table, I’m pleased that we were able to have a useful and productive conversation. In the coming days as we continue to work together, you can learn the most up-to-date information by visiting my Facebook and Twitter pages.
