This week, I spent time in North Texas meeting with constituents, health care professionals, employers, and community leaders about what federal policies mean for them.
Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council
On Friday, I was delighted to meet with the Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council to discuss the issues most important to hospitals, patients and the entire health care community. During our meeting, we talked about the looming fiscal cliff and the impact it would have on Medicare and Medicaid services. We also talked about burdensome regulations from the federal government and their impact on how our health care system operates.

In addition to our meeting, I was pleased to receive the American Hospital Association’s “Health Care Champion Award” from the group. I will continue to stand up for North Texans and fight for common-sense health care policies in Congress.

Dallas-Fort Worth Associated Equipment Distributors Meeting
I also enjoyed the opportunity to speak to the Dallas-Fort Worth Associated Equipment Distributors at the Vermeer Headquarters in Irving. During our discussion, we talked about the current state of our economy and job creation. We discussed the benefits of pro-growth policies that will reenergize the free enterprise system and keep tax rates low to allow business to thrive.

Additionally, I learned that Vermeer is an employee-owned company, which means their employees have a stake in the company and an opportunity to build their retirement savings. Employee-owned companies have seen great success and increased productivity due to the incentives – especially during this weak economy.

National Blue Ribbon School
For 30 years, the U.S. Department of Education has recognized outstanding public and private schools through their National Blue Ribbon Schools Program. This program honors elementary, middle and high schools where students’ academic achievement is either high or has significantly improved.

I am extremely pleased that two schools in the Dallas area were recognized this year, St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School and Dallas ISD’s law magnet high school. North Texas’ students are the future of our community, state and nation, and I am very proud of these two outstanding schools.
