Press Releases

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), Chairman of the House Rules Committee, today released the following statement regarding the No Budget, No Pay Act:

“For nearly four years, the Democrat-led Senate has failed to meet its most basic obligation by refusing to pass a budget.  Americans in the private sector face consequences for failing to do their jobs, and I strongly believe that we should impose the same accountability on Members of Congress.  The objective of the No Budget, No Pay Act is simple: if you don’t do your work, you don’t get paid.

“In the coming months, Congress faces a series of deadlines that will force us to address the fundamental challenge facing our nation – our trillion-dollar deficit and mounting national debt.  This legislation will allow us to use these looming deadlines as a means to enact meaningful reforms that will help to reenergize the free-enterprise system and restore fiscal discipline to our bloated budget.

“I am pleased to join my colleagues in supporting this common-sense legislation that holds both the House and Senate accountable and helps to restore economic growth.  I stand ready to move forward on an agenda that will get our fiscal house in order and ensure that we do not burden future generations with insurmountable debt.”
