Press Releases

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX-32), Chairman of the House Rules Committee, today released the following statement regarding the Supporting Knowledge and Investing in Lifelong Skills (SKILLS) Act offered by House Rules Committee Vice Chair, Congresswoman Virginia Foxx:

“Our nation’s current workforce training system is failing job seekers, job creators, and taxpayers. At a time when nearly 20 million Americans are unemployed or underemployed, it is essential that we reform this broken system to make it more effective, modern, and accountable.

“Small business owners in North Texas tell me that they struggle to find workers with the skills required for their job openings – leaving them no choice but to either expend resources to retrain employees or leave jobs unfilled.  The SKILLS Act provides real solutions for these companies by preparing our workforce with skills that better match the needs of employers. I am pleased that the House has approved this common-sense bill to cut through bureaucracy, promote better use of taxpayer dollars, and help get Americans back to work.”
