Since my election to Congress in 1996, health care has been an issue of great importance to me.  Americans have some of the greatest health care in the world, and one of my priorities is that all Americans have access to that quality care.

President Obama’s nationwide reform to our current health care system – also known as ObamaCare – is plagued with new mandates on individuals and businesses, increased taxes for all, reduced Medicare benefits for our nation’s seniors and the largest government intrusion in the doctor-patient relationship ever seen before. Americans are already experiencing firsthand the devastating impacts of ObamaCare – fewer choices, higher health care costs, unsustainable Medicare cuts, and government interference in the physician-patient relationship. It is clear that the government-overhaul of our health care system does not increase the quality of care as promised by Congressional Democrats and the Obama Administration, and its high cost burdens small businesses and continues to stifle our fragile economy.

According to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), the new health care law would add to the federal deficit and do nothing to bring cost down for Americans looking to purchase health insurance. The Lewin Group did a study on the Administration’s campaign proposals on health reform and predicted 119 million people would be displaced from their private health insurance and put on the “public option,” or government-run plan.

Over the course of the previous 112th Congress, House Republicans voted at least 35 times to repeal and defund ObamaCare fully as well as also targeting some of its more egregious provisions. Of these votes, President Obama signed into law eight of these bills that repealed and defunded various aspects of ObamaCare – a step towards victory for all Americans and job-creators across the country. House Republicans are committed to removing burdensome taxes, regulations, and government mandates to provide certainty in the marketplace. I will continue to work tirelessly to reduce costs while providing every American with access to the quality care of their choice.
